Matt Cowley

Director
Matt has over ten years experience of professional and academic ecology. Prior to joining EAD as a Director in 2004, Matt was Consultancy Manager and Principal Ecologist for an East Midlands based environmental consultancy.
Matt’s varied portfolio of experience includes directing national surveys and research contracts and undertaking large scale ecological impact assessments for the housing, power, water and extraction industries. Matt’s knowledge of ecological impact assessment has also been utilised by several UK universities, who have employed him to lecture on this subject to postgraduate level.
Matt also specialises in botanical survey and habitat management planning. He has experience of most UK habitats and has produced ecological management and monitoring plans for numerous sites, including several of international importance. Matt has considerable knowledge of protected species and holds survey licences and/or development licences for a variety of species. Matt is also an expert on butterfly ecology and has published papers on this subject in leading scientific journals.
Matt is a Chartered Environmentalist and a Full Member of the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management.
